Visitors

It is possible to come and visit Sawang Boran and its village – be it for just a half-day learning about all the complexities of silk-making, or for a few days of more leisurely discovery and rest.

However, ours is a small project, still struggling and under-staffed, having in particular no English-speaking staff other than the director – if you want to turn up without much notice, chances are there will be nobody to receive you. We would love to be able to have ‘open doors’ and to share as much as we can, but past experience with visitors has also taught us caution – we have given in some cases plenty of time (of which we have too little), and of expert information, to people who have given nothing in return. Consequently please forgive us for asking you to write well in advance, and explain clearly what your motivations or expectations are, as well as your tentative dates for a visit. We can offer you an in-depth understanding of silk, an intimate experience of village life and local culture, visits to places of interest very much off the beaten track, as well as warm-hearted down-to-earth hospitality and health-boosting herbal steam baths – all under the guidance of a very highly qualified professional anthropologist also serving as your interpreter.

If you are looking for authenticity beyond idyllic landscapes or places selling ‘eco-tourism’, you can most certainly encounter it here. We have no set fees for our services – this would be worked out depending on your requirements.
