Women traditionally made banners and manuscript covers 'for merit', donating them to their local monastery at auspicious times and for religious festivals. Although this tradition died out in our village we did re-enact it a couple of years ago when all our weavers made merit in this manner - the abbot was happy to receive these beautiful silk weavings, some of them in designs that are now very rare indeed. The banners still hang in the main hall of the monastery. We do not hold a stock of such items but for interested persons, they can be made by special order.
